PROJECT OVERVIEW
The Rio Grande LNG export terminal in Brownsville, Texas is one of the largest LNG developments on the US Gulf Coast, with Bechtel Energy as EPC. ACT delivered a complete blasting, priming, intumescent PFP and topcoat system on structural steel modules fabricated by Unger Steel for the project. Each module moved through a sequenced workflow — surface preparation, primer, hydrocarbon-rated PFP applied to specified thickness, mesh reinforcement where required, and final topcoat — before being released for shipment to the US site. Application and curing were carried out under strict environmental control to protect the intumescent layer.
RESULTS & OUTCOME
Modules were released to load-out fully PFP-coated and ready for hydrocarbon-rated fire-exposure standards.
- PFP dry film thickness verified against the engineering data sheet on every member
- Mesh reinforcement applied per detail at all load-bearing transitions
- Topcoat applied within recoat windows with no inter-coat adhesion failures
- All members tagged and documented for full material traceability
- Modules cleared QA inspection and shipped on schedule to the US site
